VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson On Protecting Abortion Rights
Abortion and women’s reproductive rights have become even more highly debated topics since Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court last year.
Several states like Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Ohio have passed laws restricting abortion, often times making no exceptions for cases involving rape, incest or the mother’s health being at risk. The landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case is gradually being overturned across the country. Some states like Louisiana and Mississippi have passed so-called “heartbeat bills,” which ban abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected. This can happen as early as six weeks into pregnancy. Doctors who perform abortions can now be sentenced to lengthy prison terms under new laws introduced in these states.
