Stephanie Grisham, a top spokeswoman for First Lady Melania Trump, was appointed White House press secretary and communications director, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.
Melania Trump revealed the news on Twitter. Grisham will replace Sarah Huckabee Sanders and former Fox News executive Bill Shine, who left his role as White House communications director in March.
Grisham has been with the Trumps since 2015 and is one of the few remaining aides from President Donald Trump‘s 2016 campaign who is still working in the White House.

According to The New York Times, White House officials have been discussing among themselves whether or not the administration should hold daily press briefings, a longstanding tradition that recently ended after Sanders stopped leading such meetings. When Sanders announced her resignation earlier this month, it was reported that it had been 94 days since her last news briefing. It’s likely that Trump administration officials worry Grisham, like Sanders, could face a combative relationship with the media, especially as the 2020 election season draws closer.

Grisham has written multiple op-eds about the liberal media’s treatment of her and other White House officials. She is most famous for having released a statement late last year denouncing Mira Ricardel, another staffer for Melania Trump who reportedly had disagreements with the rest of the staff over logistics for the first lady’s trip to Africa in October.
Grisham also briefly worked for Mitt Romney‘s presidential campaign in 2012.
