GOP Rep. Justin Amash Calls For Trump’s Impeachment, President Calls Him “Lightweight”
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Michigan) on Saturday became the first Republican congressman to call for President Donald Trump‘s impeachment following the revelations from Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s report.
Amash, a 39-year-old with libertarian tendencies, said on Twitter that Trump’s conduct as described in Mueller’s full report on the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election was impeachable. Amash also blasted Attorney General William Barr, accusing him of having “deliberately misrepresented” Mueller’s conclusions.
“Impeachment, which is a special form of indictment, does not even require probable cause that a crime (e.g., obstruction of justice) has been committed,” Amash wrote in one tweet. “It simply requires a finding that an official has engaged in careless, abusive, corrupt or otherwise dishonorable conduct.”

Several Democratic lawmakers, including 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), have called for Trump’s impeachment. However, others like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) have voiced more hesitation.
Meanwhile, some of Trump’s closest allies have attacked Amash for his latest comments, calling him an attention-seeker. Trump himself also fired back at the Michigan Republican by calling him a “total lightweight” and a “loser:”
