Michael Cohen Sues Trump Organization Over $1.9 Million In Unpaid Legal Fees

Michael CohenPresident Donald Trump‘s former personal lawyer, filed a lawsuit against the Trump Organization on Thursday, accusing it of breaching a contract by refusing to pay roughly $1.9 million in legal fees after Cohen started cooperating with federal prosecutors.

The suit was filed in New York’s Supreme Court in Manhattan. Cohen is also reportedly seeking reimbursement for a sum he was directed to pay in fines, forfeitures and restitution following his plea deals for charges of bank and tax fraud, campaign finance violations and lying to lawmakers.

The Trump Organization and Cohen reportedly reached the agreement regarding the legal fees — and other costs associated with inquiries conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller —  in July 2017.

According to The New York Times, Cohen parted ways with his lawyers after the Trump Organization stopped paying Trump’s former fixer.

Cohen delivered a bombshell testimony before several congressional panels last week about his work for Trump over the last decade, which included lying on the real estate mogul’s behalf and threatening entities like Trump’s former schools to not release his grades and test scores. Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the House Oversight Committee chairman, praised the president’s former fixer for giving detailed answers to their questions and for fully cooperating with their probes into Trump’s many illegal activities.

Cohen is set to report to prison on May 6 for a three-year sentence.
