Donald Trump & Adult Children Sue Deutsche Bank & Capital One To Block House Subpoenas

President Donald Trump and his family have filed a lawsuit against Deutsche Bank and Capital One in order to block subpoenas House Democrats have issued in pursuit of Trump’s business records.

Trump’s attorneys argued in the suit — filed in New York — that the subpoenas serve “no legitimate or lawful purpose” and were simply issued for “political” reasons.

“The subpoenas were issued to harass President Donald J. Trump, to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses, and the private information of the President and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him political damage,” the lawsuit contends. “No grounds exist to establish any purpose other than a political one.”

The House Intelligence and Financial Services Committees both subpoenaed Trump for financial documents. The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., has also blasted Democrats for their actions regarding Deutsche Bank. He and his siblings Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump also filed the lawsuit.

The German bank said in a statement that it was “committed to providing appropriate information to all authorized investigations” and that it would cooperate with a court order tied to these inquiries.

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-California) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California), the House Financial Services chairwoman, both rebuked Trump in a statement.

“As a private businessman, Trump routinely used his well-known litigiousness and the threat of lawsuits to intimidate others, but he will find that Congress will not be deterred from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities,” they said.
