Support For Impeaching Trump Jumps To 41 Percent, New CNN Poll Shows

A new CNN poll released Sunday shows 41 percent of registered American voters support impeaching President Donald Trump

The survey, conducted by SSRS, reveals most respondents believe Trump should be impeached based on what they have heard or read. The 41 percent figure marks a 4 percent increase from a similar poll published in May.

When taking political party into account, 76 percent of Democrats say they back impeachment proceedings, a figure that is up 8 percent from April.

CNN also pointed out that Trump’s approval rating has stayed essentially unchanged in the past four weeks, at around 43 percent. Meanwhile, 52 percent of Americans said they disapprove of the president’s performance thus far.

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020

The growing call for impeachment among Democrats, including from 2020 presidential candidates like Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) and Kamala Harris (D-California) comes in the wake of Special Counsel Robert Muellers full report on his Russian meddling probe. Mueller also delivered a final public statement on his investigation last week, when he announced he would be leaving the Justice Department but also said that charging Trump with obstruction of justice was “not an option.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has explicitly said she does not believe impeaching Trump is the best move for the country at this moment.

The latest CNN survey also shows 53 percent of respondents said Trump is not cooperating sufficiently with the inquiries into him, his presidency and his businesses.

The poll was held between May 28 and 31 among a group of 1,006 adults. The margin of error is 3.8 percentage points.
