Steve Bannon Presents White House With Plan To Stop Mueller Probe & Help Donald Trump

Stephen Bannon may not be in the White House anymore, but he is still attempting to help President Donald Trump with Robert Mueller’s investigation into his campaign’s contacts with Russians before and after the election.

Steve Bannon’s Plan To Hurt Mueller’s Russia Probe

Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, is reportedly presenting a plan to protect the president by undermining the special counsel’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

The Washington Post, which cited four unnamed sources, reported that this plot includes firing Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein as the first step for Trump. something the president has reportedly already been considering. Rosenstein named Mueller as the special counsel and has been overseeing Mueller’s conducting of the investigation.

Bannon’s plan argues that Trump should stop cooperating with the special counsel and utilize his executive privilege to assure that Mueller’s interviews with administration officials in recent months effectively become “null and void.”

In addition to Rosenstein, Trump has also been weighing the possibility of firing Mueller, despite previous statements in which the president said he was willing to sit down with the special counsel for an interview in the hopes that doing so would end the probe.

“The president wasn’t fully briefed by his lawyers on the implications” of not invoking executive privilege, Bannon told The Post in an interview on Wednesday. “It was a strategic mistake to turn over everything without due process, and executive privilege should be exerted immediately and retroactively.”

Bannon — a notorious nationalist who previously served as executive chairman of Breitbart News — was fired by Trump in August 2017 (shortly after the alt-right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia) following a series of disagreements between the two. Bannon is believed to have played a major role in the White House during his time there. He once said he wanted to “dismantle the old order” of the way the government was run during previous administrations.

After Bannon was ousted, Trump claimed the former Breitbart executive had “lost his mind.”

In January, some of Trump’s attorneys claimed Bannon broke a confidentiality agreement by criticizing the president and members of Trump’s inner circle in journalist Michael Wolff’s book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

Bannon — who has reportedly been interviewed extensively by Mueller and his team — also recently said he believes Ty Cobbone of the top members of Trump’s legal team, should be dismissed due to the mediocre counsel he has provided the president in the Russia probe.

“Ty Cobb should be fired immediately,” Bannon said.
