Rudy Giuliani: Trump’s Legal Team Prepared To Argue Robert Mueller Subpoena ‘Before The Supreme Court’

Rudy Giuliani said on Wednesday that he and the rest of President Donald Trump‘s legal team are ready to oppose a possible subpoena from Special Counsel Robert Mueller before the Supreme Court.

Giuliani, who is leading discussions between the president’s lawyers and the special counsel, told The Washington Post that Trump’s attorneys are hoping to “quash” a potential Mueller subpoena, and that they would be prepared to argue this case in front of the nation’s highest court if necessary.

Mueller has been investigating Trump and his closest associates for more than one year now over Russian interference in the 2016 election, including possible collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Russian government. The president has repeatedly slammed the probe as a “rigged witch hunt” and even called on top administration officials like Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end the inquiry, which Trump also claims is tainted because he believes the special counsel is biased toward Democrats despite being a Republican.

Giuliani has been one of Trump’s staunchest defenders. The former New York City mayor and prosecutor has also routinely insisted that the president and his team never colluded with Russia or obstructed justice. Even if they did, Giuliani has argued that this does not constitute a crime. Giuliani also claimed last month that Trump’s attorneys are “close to determining” that the president won’t sit down with Mueller for a one-on-one interview.

Last week, Trump’s legal team sent the special counsel a letter detailing their terms for an interview with the president.

Giuliani also told The Post that Emmet Flood — a White House attorney working on the Russia investigation who previously worked on Bill Clinton‘s impeachment proceedings — “would have a big role to play here and would assert presidential privilege,” although he did not specify what type of role Flood would play.

On Wednesday, Giuliani told Bloomberg that the special counsel should “write the damn report so we can see it and rebut it.”

The former New York mayor also cited a CNN poll in a tweet on Wednesday to insist that Mueller end his probe within the next three weeks.
