Melania Trump Tries To Improve Her Image During Europe Trip
On Tuesday, the First Lady Melania Trump boarded Air Force One along with her husband President Donald Trump to Europe. Melania Trump will join the president at his NATO meeting in Brussels, his stops in London and Scotland, and in Finland for his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.
After weeks of solo travels around the U.S., Melania plans to revive her child-focused campaign “Be Best.” She has not done much with Be Best since starting it days before she was hospitalized for a kidney condition in May.
Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump’s communications director, said that the first lady is scheduled for an event in England to support Be Best and is to meet with Philip May, the husband of British Prime Minister Theresa May, while her husband meets Theresa May. The Sunday Times of London reported that Theresa May said of her husbands preparation for the visit, “He’s looking forward to meeting Melania.” A meeting with Queen Elizabeth is on the agenda, either at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

The last few month’s have brought numerous public relations disasters for the Trumps. Melania created latest headlines around the world after wearing a jacket that read “I Really Don’t Care, Do You?” to a child detention center. “It is important to her that she represents our country in a positive way . . . while paying respect to the host countries we are visiting,” Grisham told The New York Times.
Katherine Jellison, a professor at Ohio University who studies first ladies, told The Times, “This first lady probably has some challenges in that her husband is not a favorite among Europeans and European leaders. I suspect that she will try to be particularly charming and win over locals on these side events where she goes out by herself.”
