In a letter to Illinois Democratic Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, the acting director of the Office of Government Ethics confirmed that the White House Counsel’s office is investigating the legality of loans accepted by Jared Kushner from companies visiting the White House.
“The White House informed me that they had already begun this process,” the OGE director, David Apol, said in the letter, according to CNN. “I have asked the White House to inform me of the results of that process.”

Apol also wrote a letter to Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) explaining that he had talked about his concerns over Kushner’s potential ethical violations with the White House, and that the White House had confirmed with him then that it was looking into the matter.

In 2017, Apollo Global Management and Citigroup lent Kushner Companies hundreds of millions of dollars. Executives from both companies also met with Kushner at the White House to discuss infrastructure, finance and trade policy.
The latest investigation comes after Kushner lost his top secret security clearance at the White House. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders maintained that Kushner is an asset to the White House and will continue to serve as a member of the Trump administration.
