Donald Trump Threatens To Countersue DNC After Democrats Sue His Campaign, Russia & WikiLeaks

Donald Trump has threatened to countersue the Democratic National Committee after the party announced on Friday that it would sue his campaign, Russia and WikiLeaks for allegedly conspiring to sway the 2016 election in his favor.

Trump said on Twitter on Friday that the Democrats’ lawsuit was “good news” because now he could retaliate by claiming the party “refused to give to the FBI, the Debbie Wasserman Schultz Servers and Documents held by the Pakistani mystery man and Clinton Emails.”

The president was referring to the Democratic Congresswoman from Florida who previously served as the DNC’s chairwoman until July 2016, when a scandal revealed that the party had favored Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president and helped make her the nominee, and hurt the campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders’, an independent who ran as a Democrat in 2016. Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign as DNC chair and was succeeded by Donna Brazile, who was only acting chairwoman for seven months. Tom Perez, the former Secretary of Labor under Barack Obama, currently serves as the party’s chairman.

Trump initially got Wasserman Schulttz’s first name wrong in his tweet, calling her “Wendy” instead of “Debbie,” and later corrected the error.

The Democrats have claimed that Trump campaign officials, the Russian government and non-profit media organization WikiLeaks conspired to hurt Clinton’s presidential bid by hacking the DNC’s computers and stealing emails.

Brad Parscale, one of Trump’s 2016 campaign officials who has reportedly been hired to lead the president’s re-election bid in 2020, called the Democrats’ lawsuit “a sham lawsuit about a bogus Russian collusion claim.”

Parscale also called the DNC “desperate” and “nearly insolvent,” saying the party was simply filing the lawsuit in an attempt to raise more money to compensate for losing many small donors.

Meanwhile, WikiLeaks said in its own tweet Friday that it is protected from lawsuits like the ones the Democrats have filed, and also slammed the party:

Among the defendants the DNC names in its suit are Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushnerformer campaign chairman Paul Manafort, adviser Rick Gatesand other campaign officials, though not Trump himself.

Manafort and Gates have already been charged in special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Russians. Manafort has pleaded not guilty, while Gates has taken a plea deal and has pledged to cooperate with investigators.
