Donald Trump Upset That Ann Coulter & Rush Limbaugh Called Him A “Wimp”

President Donald Trump, speaking with Democratic leaders last month, boasted that he would be “proud” to own a government shutdown, threatening to maintain one until he received funding for his border wall. After a 35-day impasse, Trump gave in on Jan. 26 and signed a bill that would provide funding until Feb. 15, ending the longest government shutdown in the United States’ history without obtaining money for his wall.

Trump’s act was perceived as a sign of weakness by many, prominent conservative personality Ann Coulter among them. She took to Twitter, opining how the late George H.W. Bush is “no longer the biggest wimp to ever to serve as President of the United States.” In a March 2017 interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, she had described Trump as her “emperor god.” She converted into a “Former Trumper” one year later.


Trump isn’t pleased with his former advocate. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump addressed the change in her demeanor, saying, “I hear she’s become very hostile. Maybe I didn’t return her phone call or something.”

While Fox News itself has reliably been a choice network for the president, some of its pundits have expressed their disappointment in Trump as well. Fox Business host Lou Dobbs is one example, who said “the president pleased few of his supporters” by signing the legislation.

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh echoed the sentiment, saying, “You could get mad at Trump all you want, you can get mad, but why wasn’t this done when the Republicans had the House for two years and the Senate for two? Why wasn’t it done? And you could even ask Trump. Why didn’t you push for it?”

Other right-leaning personalities, including Fox News pundit Sean Hannity and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, stepped in to defend Trump. “Don’t let what is what I believe a shift in strategy fool you, because I don’t have any doubt at all that the president is going to fight as hard, if not harder, for the money for the wall.”
