Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said in a statement on Twitter Friday he was “sickened” by some of the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report about the Trump campaign’s ties with Russia.
“I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonest and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” the former Republican presidential candidate wrote. “The report is a sobering revelation of how far we have strayed from the aspirations and principles of the founders.”
Though, Romney did say it was “good news” that Mueller did not establish enough evidence to charge the president with a crime, noting the very difficult effects that would have had on the country.

“It is good news that there was insufficient evidence to charge the President of the United States with having conspired with a foreign adversary or with having obstructed justice,” he said. “The alternative would have taken us through a wrenching process with the potential for constitutional crisis. The business of government can move on.”
The Utah Senator is one of the first prominent Republicans to make such critical comments of the president in the aftermath of the blockbuster investigation.
The 448-page report released Thursday outlined multiple attempts by the Trump administration to interfere with Mueller’s investigation, describing 10 incidents in which the administration may have committed obstruction of justice.
Some of the report’s most significant findings about the Trump campaign include conclusions that the president did try to cover up the infamous Trump Tower meeting with Russian agents and members of his inner circle and that he also attempted to obstruct justice by asking aides to interfere with Mueller’s investigation.
