Now that the midterm elections are over, many people’s minds are on the 2020 presidential race and which Democratic candidate will take on Donald Trump.
A new poll has revealed how much support Trump has thus far in his re-election bid. According to a Monmouth University survey released Wednesday, 37 percent of registered voters want to see Trump re-elected in 2020. Meanwhile, 58 percent of voters hope someone else will take over in January 2021.
According to Politico, Trump’s approval rating has hovered at around 43 percent in recent weeks.

The Monmouth poll also found that 16 percent of Republicans think Trump should not serve more than one term, versus 92 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of Independent voters who say the same thing about this subject. Of those surveyed, 36 percent said they believe Trump should be impeached, compared to 41 percent who were in favor of this in July 2017.
The survey also asked participants to state how they would like Congress to act as a check on Trump. Most of the 802 respondents (72 percent) said they wished for it to be either a major or minor priority of lawmakers to keep Trump in check. In total, 54 percent of GOP voters stated Congress should work towards keeping the president in line.
Trump has already spent hefty sums on his re-election campaign, according to data from the Federal Elections Committee. Democrats, who regained the majority in the House of Representatives in last week’s midterms, said they will investigate the president on multiple issues over the coming months, including his tax returns.
