Trump Approval Rating Drops 5 Points To 39 Percent After Mueller Report, Tying All-Time Low

A poll released last week reveals President Donald Trump‘s approval rating has decreased by 5 points to 39 percent since special counsel Robert Mueller‘s report on Russian meddling during the 2016 election was released.

The Politico/Morning Consult survey, which was conducted over the course of three days, also shows that despite the fact that a growing number of Americans disapprove of Trump, there is little support to impeach him. Several Democratic lawmakers have called for the president to be removed from office following the revelations of the full 448-page Mueller report, which strongly suggests Trump attempted to obstruct justice multiple times.

Trump’s 39 percent approval rating ties his lowest since taking office two years ago: in August 2017, following the violent white supremacist rallies in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The latest poll also shows nearly 6 in 10 voters (57 percent) disapprove of Trump’s performance in office thus far. The survey reveals only 34 percent of likely voters support congressional impeachment proceedings, a drop from 39 percent in January. Meanwhile, 48 percent of those surveyed said they oppose impeachment proceedings.

“President Trump’s approval rating has dipped to its lowest point of his term in the immediate aftermath of the redacted Mueller report release,” said Tyler Sinclair, Morning Consult’s vice president. “This week, 57 percent of voters disapprove, and 39 percent approve of the president’s performance — a net approval rating of –18 percentage points, compared with 55 percent who disapproved and 42 percent who approved — a net approval rating of –13 percentage points — one month ago in the aftermath of Attorney General [William] Barr’s summary of the Mueller report to Congress.”

Barr was also blasted by several Democratic lawmakers for downplaying Mueller’s findings, which he summarized in a four-page letter to Congress. Barr was accused of continuing to spin the results of the Russia investigation in Trump’s favor, even in a public press conference held the morning the full redacted report was released on April 18. Barr fully exonerated Trump of obstruction of justice.

The new Politico/Morning Consult poll surveyed 1,992 voters and holds a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
