Who Is Mark Judge, Second Accused Man In Brett Kavanaugh Sexual Assault Case?

Christine Blasey Ford accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault one week ago, but she also alleges another man was also involved in the incident.

Ford claims that in 1982, when she was a 15-year-old high-schooler, Kavanaugh and his Georgetown Preparatory classmate Mark Judge physically held her down at a party and covered her mouth. Ford’s lawyers have demanded that Judge be subpoenaed to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee in hearings next week, where she and Kavanaugh are set to deliver testimonies of the incident.

Like Kavanaugh, Judge — a filmmaker and journalist — has denied the allegations against him.

However, Judge’s past writings about his high school days have raised questions about whether the incident with Ford might have actually happened. In his book Wasted: Tales of a Gen X Drunk, Judge recounts his intoxicated parties and shenanigans while attending Georgetown Prep. In the memoir, Judge describes how “shocked” he was at all the things he managed to get away with as a teenager.

At one point in the book, Judge also mentions a friend named “Bart O’Kavanaugh” who vomited in a car, and although there is no official confirmation that this is a pseudonym for Kavanaugh, people aware of the book have wondered if Judge is referring to the Supreme Court nominee.

Judge also wrote an article for publication Splice Today in 2015 in which he described something called “damseling,” which he explained is the act of “making a woman a passive damsel in distress who needs rescuing.”

“Of course, a man must be able to read a woman’s signals, and it’s a good thing that feminism is teaching young men that no means no and yes means yes,” Judge wrote in the piece. “But there’s also that ambiguous middle ground, where the woman seems interested and indicates, whether verbally or not, that the man needs to prove himself to her. And if that man is any kind of man, he’ll allow himself to feel the awesome power, the wonderful beauty, of uncontrollable male passion.”
