White House Chief Of Staff Mick Mulvaney Says Democrats Will “Never” See Trump’s Tax Returns

Donald Trump pledged during th 2016 campaign to release his tax returns, but now his administration is fighting Democrats’ requests for the release of the president’s returns.

“[House Democrats] cannot legally request—and the IRS cannot legally divulge—this information,” stressed William Consovoy an outside lawyer for Trump, in a letter he sent to the U.S Department of Treasury on Friday.

Earlier in the week Chairman Richard Neal of the House Ways and Means Committee sent a request to the internal revenue service requesting 6 years of Trumps individual and business returns, which Consovoy calls “illegitimate.”

“Requests for tax returns and return information must have a legitimate legislative purpose,” Consovoy went on to say, “[Neal’s] request is a transparent effort by one political party to harass an official from the other party because they dislike his politics and speech.”

White House Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney mirrored the lawyers comments on the Fox News Sunday program.

“They knew they weren’t going to get these taxes, they know what the law is,” Mulvaney said

Senate Majority Leader  Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)  recently became the highest profile Republican to be added to the long list of people calling for the release of Trump’s tax returns, a battle that has just begun.
