A cashier was killed and the suspect and the sheriff’s deputy were injured in a shooting at an Atlanta grocery store on Monday.

According to Dekalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox, Victor Lee Tucker Jr. shot the cashier, Laquitta Willis, after the two argued about COVID-19 masking policies. The sheriff’s deputy, who worked part-time as security for the store, intervened.

The deputy was shot at twice, but he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Maddox said: “That is what he’s trained to do, that’s part of his 30-year career in law enforcement. All of us here are trained to intervene and to respond.”
