On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump shared a tweet attacking Democratic nominee Joe Biden, specifically targeting his age.
The tweet contained an image of a group of elderly people in wheelchairs near a sign that said “Biden for Resident,” instead of “President,” suggesting that Biden belongs in a nursing home rather than the White House. One of the elderly in the wheelchairs had Biden’s face photoshopped onto the image.
Biden is 77 years old, and Trump is 74. Trump is also fighting for votes amongst the elderly, a group that polls suggest are now backing Biden by wide margins. Many on social media say Trump’s tweet was insensitive and ageist.
