President Donald Trump continued his attacks on Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Saturday by calling for him to be “impeached” after the former 2012 Republican presidential nominee rebuked him for urging China and Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden.
In a tweet on Saturday, Trump mocked Romney by saying he was “hearing” that Utah voters were regretting their support for the “pompous” Mormon Republican in the 2018 midterm elections. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, won his seat with 63 percent of the vote.

“He is a fool who is playing right into the hands of the Do Nothing Democrats!” Trump tweeted of the Utah Republican, adding the hashtag #IMPEACHMITTROMNEY. It is impossible to impeach a sitting U.S. senator.

Last month, Romney wrote on Twitter that he believes it is “troubling in the extreme” that Trump pressured Ukraine’s president during a phone call in July to probe Biden and his son for alleged corruption. Trump responded by trolling the Utah Senator with a video of his 2012 election loss to Barack Obama.
After Trump also suggested last week that China should investigate Biden, Romney called the president’s behavior “wrong and appalling.” The GOP Senator also said Trump’s actions regarding Ukraine and China are clearly “politically motivated,” as the only person the president asked to be probed is his opponent in the 2020 election.
Romney is one of the few Republican Senators to criticize Trump for the scandals involving his communications with Ukraine and China, which have spurred an impeachment inquiry from House Democrats. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) also condemned Trump’s request to China in comments to the Bangor Daily News on Saturday.
“I thought the president made a big mistake by asking China to get involved in investigating a political opponent,” Collins told reporters. “It’s completely inappropriate.”
