Trump Calls For Pelosi’s Impeachment Amid His Own Impeachment Inquiry

In a Twitter role reversal Sunday, President Donald Trump wrote that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) should be “immediately” impeached for treason.

“Nancy Pelosi knew of all of the many Shifty Adam Schiff lies and massive frauds perpetrated upon Congress and the American people, in the form of a fraudulent speech knowingly delivered as a ruthless con, and the illegal meetings with a highly partisan “Whistleblower & lawyer,” he tweeted.

Trump went on to accuse both Pelosi and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-California) of treason.

“This makes Nervous Nancy every bit as guilty as Liddle’ Adam Schiff for High Crimes and Midsdeanors, and even Treason,” tweeted Trump. “I guess that means that they, along with all of those that evilly “Colluded” with them, must all be immediately Impeached!”

Trump has been highly critical of Schiff, who spearheaded the impeachment inquiry by subpoenaing the Acting Director of National Intelligence to produce an “urgent” whistleblower complaint.

The complaint, later made public, alleged that Trump had used his power to influence a foreign leader for political gain. The surrounding controversy prompted Trump to publish a redacted transcript of the conversation in question.

He told the president of Ukraine, “There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution, and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great,” referring to former Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko and his dropped investigation into Burisma Holdings, a company democratic candidate Joe Biden‘s son worked for.

Because of the news that Trump may have pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate a political rival, Pelosi decided to launch a formal impeachment inquiry on Sept. 24.

Trump has described his phone call as “perfect,” and criticized Schiff for “illegally” misrepresenting him to Congress.

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020

“Rep. Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible statement, pretended it to be mine as the the most important part of my call to the Ukrainian President, and read it aloud to Congress and the American people,” Trump tweeted on Sept. 30. “It bore NO relationship to what I said on the call. Arrest for Treason?”

Neither Pelosi nor Schiff can be impeached as Trump’s tweets suggest, because members of Congress cannot be impeached. However, the Constitution does state that each House of Congress “may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member.”
