Despite criticism, President Donald Trump claimed his administration has been taking adequate measures in responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ve always known this was a real ― this is a pandemic,” Trump said on Tuesday at a press conference. “I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

This week, Trump  announced social distancing guidelines and asked Americans to avoid crowds of more than 10 people. “No, I’ve always viewed it as very serious. There was no difference yesterday from days before. I feel the tone is similar, but some people said it wasn’t.”

Trump has been criticized for not responding quickly enough to the pandemic. At a rally in South Carolina a few weeks ago, Trump claimed the coronavirus was something made up by Democrats to make him look bad. “They tried the impeachment hoax. … They tried anything. … And this is their new hoax,” he told crowds.
