Trump Changes His Residency From New York To Florida, Gov. Cuomo Tweets: ‘Good Riddance’

President Donald Trump has ditched his native state of New York to become a resident of Florida, court documents show.

Trump changed his place of residence to his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida, in late September, and has spent more time there during his presidency than at his penthouse apartment on Fifth Avenue in New York.

In a thread of tweets Thursday night, Trump explained that he loves New York but was “treated very badly” by its politicians.

“I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year, I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state,” he tweeted. “Few have been treated worse. I hated having to make this decision, but in the end it will be best for all concerned.”

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020

He continued, “As President, I will always be there to help New York and the great people of New York. It will always have a special place in my heart!”

Trump has been heavily criticized by both New York governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Cuomo tweeted his goodbye to Trump, writing “Good riddance. It’s not like @realDonaldTrump paid taxes here anyway… He’s all yours, Florida.”

Trump has also been battling in the courts with New York District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

Vance subpoenaed eight years of Trump’s personal and corporate tax returns on Sept 16. The tax returns are likely a critical piece of evidence in his investigation into whether state laws were broken through hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal during the 2016 presidential election.

The case is widely expected to reach the Supreme Court. It is not clear if, or how, Trump’s change of residency would affect the case.

The New York Times was the first to report on his switch in residence. A source close to the President told the Times that Trump changed his residency for tax purposes, as Florida does not collect income tax.

Melania Trump has also changed her residence to Florida, filing court documents a month after her husband.
