Trump Organization Puts Its D.C. Trump International Hotel Up For Sale

The Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C. has been listed on the market. The historic, federally owned $200 million icon has only been operating for three years, but political tension resulting from President Donald Trump‘s simultaneous positions as the head of the federal government and tenant has created an ethics firestorm. The hotel frequently hosts foreign diplomats and executives doing business with the government.

The Trump family said it has a lot offers for the property. “Since we opened our doors, we have received tremendous interest in this hotel and as real estate developers, we are always willing to explore our options,” Eric Trump said in a statement.

The decision to list Trump International D.C. comes after Republicans told the president that hosting the G-7 at his Miami Doral golf resort would present a huge ethical conflict for his administration, and Trump reversed his decision.

Trump has been subject to numerous lawsuits over the hotel accusing him of violating the Constitution’s emoluments clause, which forbids him from accepting payment from foreign governments.

Although the Trump family continues to argue that ownership of the hotel does not constitute a  legitimate legal or ethical issue, listing the property acknowledges the political tension. “People are objecting to us making so much money on the hotel, and therefore we may be willing to sell,” Eric Trump said.

The Trump Organization has listed the property with J.L.L. Real Estate.
