Stormy Daniels Says Michael Avenatti Sued Trump For Defamation Without Her Approval

Porn star Stormy Daniels made a bombshell revelation Wednesday when she claimed her attorney Michael Avenatti filed a defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump earlier this year against her wishes.

Avenatti — a combative lawyer who is embroiled in a scandal involving alleged domestic violence — responded to Daniels’ claims by saying he was “very” surprised.

The Daily Beast reported a statement from the porn star in which she accused Avenatti of having “spoken on my behalf without my approval” and that he also launched a fundraising website for her, something Daniels was not made aware of beforehand. The page has reportedly raised approximately $5,000 since its launch almost one month ago.

Avenatti then told NBC News in a phone interview that several things his client said were “not accurate,” although he did not go into specific details.

“For months I’ve asked Michael Avenatti to give me accounting information about the fund my supporters so generously donated to for my safety and legal defense,” Daniels said in the statement, obtained by NBC News. “He has repeatedly ignored those requests.”

Ever since Daniels and Avenatti sued Trump and his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen for defamation over an extramarital affair she and former Apprentice host had in 2006, Trump, Avenatti and the porn star have been locked in a heated feud. Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 in hush money and Trump forced her to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the encounter, although Daniels alleges the president never signed it.

After the domestic violence allegations against Avenatti surfaced earlier this month, Daniels said she supported her attorney but that if the claims proved to be true, she would seek another lawyer. Avenatti denied all the claims against him.

Avenatti also called himself “Stormy’s biggest champion” when speaking to NBC News.

“You need only look back at her numerous prior interviews where she states we talk and communicate multiple times every day about her cases,” the lawyer added. “The retention agreement Stormy signed back in February provided that she would pay me $100.00 and that any and all other monies raised via a legal fund would go toward my legal fees and costs.”

Avenatti continued: “Instead, the vast majority of the money raised has gone toward her security expenses and similar other expenses. The most recent campaign was simply a refresh of the prior campaign, designed to help defray some of Stormy’s expenses.”
