Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the Republican candidate for governor of Arkansas and former Trump White House press secretary, claimed that the overruling of Roe v. Wade would make children as safe in wombs as they are in schools.

The comment was made during a rally she shared on Twitter a few weeks prior to the actual decision being handed down.

“We will make sure that when a kid is in the womb, they’re as safe as they are in a classroom, the workplace, a nursing home—because every stage of life has value, no one greater than the other,” Sanders stated.

The comment was made on May 25, one day after the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Fred Guttenberg, who lost his daughter during the 2018 Parkland school shooting, replied to Sanders and said, “My daughter was murdered in her classroom. When @SarahHuckabee says, ‘We will make sure that when a kid is in the womb, they’re as safe as they are in a classroom’ I take notice.”

“Sarah, your bulls— is deadly to kids when they are born,” Guttenberg continued.

After the Supreme Court ruling, Sanders issued a statement praising the ruling.

“I am thankful for the brave resolve of the six justices who—while receiving death threats and extreme political pressure—did what is right: defending the lives of the most innocent and vulnerable,” she said in a tweet.
