South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced on Sunday that he is dropping out of the race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. Buttigieg saw early success winning the delegate vote in the Iowa Caucuses and placing a close second to Sen. Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, but he faltered when it came to more demographically diverse states. He finished a distant fifth in the Nevada Caucuses and fourth in the South Carolina primary, where he got just 3% of the black vote.

He was facing a steep climb on Super Tuesday on March 3 when one third of the delegates will be decided. His withdrawal will help former Vice President Joe Biden, who placed a strong first in the South Carolina primary on Saturday night.
