Rep. Michael Guest (R- Mississippi), who chairs the bipartisan House Ethics Committee, has introduced a resolution to remove Rep. George Santos (R-New York) from Congress. This action was prompted by the committee’s recent report, which revealed multiple breaches of House regulations and substantial evidence of campaign fraud.

The resolution has set the stage for a crucial vote following Thanksgiving, potentially resulting in Santos becoming only the sixth representative to be expelled from the chamber throughout its history.

In a statement, Guest said that the evidence found by the Ethics Committee’s investigative subcommittee during its probe into the matter is enough to warrant punishment.

“The most appropriate punishment is expulsion,” he added.

The statement was issued along with his five-page resolution.

Earlier, Santos managed to survive two attempts to expel him, despite numerous media reports revealing that his life story was a fabrication. Federal prosecutors have accused him of committing 23 felonies.

On Friday, it seemed that Santos was losing his support as numerous lawmakers from both parties suggested that the ethics report, which revealed his use of political contributions for Botox, Ferragamo items and vacations, was the last straw for a politician who has caused numerous political difficulties over the past year.

Now, Santos’ two options are to either stay put and defend himself against a potentially embarrassing removal or to resign beforehand in an attempt to win favor with prosecutors.
