Mueller May Have Exit Strategy If He Is Fired, Says Frank Figliuzzi, Former Assistant FBI Director Who Worked For Him

There has been great concern among several lawmakers, reporters and political pundits that President Donald Trump may fire Robert Muellerthe special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Robert Mueller’s Possible Exit Strategy

However, former Assistant FBI Director of Counterintelligence Frank Figliuzzi says he believes Mueller may have an exit strategy should he or any other top official tasked with overseeing the Russia probe — like Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein — be fired by Trump.

In an interview on MSNBC this week, Faglusi — who previously worked for Mueller — said he believes the special counsel has a list of indictments ready to send to state attorneys general should he or Rosenstein be dismissed from the probe.

Mueller suggested in a court filing on Wednesday that his investigation is far from over, disputing claims made by Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani that the inquiry could end by September 1.

Several news outlets filed a lawsuit this week demanding the release of records pertaining to Mueller’s probe. Mueller recently sent Trump a list of 49 questions he wishes to ask the president in an interview about several issues including his contacts with Russian officials, the firing of former FBI Director James Comey and obstruction of justice, among other matters.

Figliuzzi also spoke about Trump’s claim that there is a “spy” that was possibly planted in his campaign by Barack Obama‘s administration. Trump has ordered an investigation of the FBI and Justice Department’s probes into his campaign because of this. Figliuzzi said the informant may be from another government, but most likely not from the U.S. Government. He said it would be a very challenging and “intrusive’ process to place or “embed” any type of high-level U.S. operative within Trump’s campaign.
