Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) was booed and heckled with chants of “Moscow Mitch” at a Fancy Farm picnic event in Kentucky on Saturday.
Democrats accused the Senate Majority Leader of backing Russian interests by not supporting the passage of election interference legislation last month. In turn, McConnell claimed Democrats want to “turn America into a socialist country,” citing the party’s desire to make certain cities so-called “sanctuary cities” that would provide immigrants with a safe haven.
“Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are never going to let that happen. That’s why I call myself the Grim Reaper,” McConnell said. “I’m killing their socialist agenda. But the first step in fighting those liberal schemes happens right here in Kentucky this year. We need to reelect Gov. [Matt] Bevin.”

“Are you on the side of sanctuary cities? Or are you on the side of protecting the rule of law and securing our borders? Which side are you on?” Bevin asked.
Many critics of McConnell — who now has a challenger in the 2020 congressional elections in former fighter pilot Amy McGrath — were also quick to blast him for his longtime strong relationship with the National Rifle Association.
