John Brennan Says He’s Prepared To File Lawsuit Against Trump Over Revoked Security Clearances

Former CIA Director John Brennan stated on Sunday that he is prepared to sue President Donald Trump over his recent string of security clearance revocations, adding he is willing to to do anything necessary to stop this from every happening again.

“I am going to do whatever I can personally to try to prevent these abuses in the future, and if it means going to court I will do that,” Brennan said in an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press.

Along with Brennan, a dozen other former intelligence officials blasted Trump for his decision to revoke the security clearances of his critics, many of which are former Barack Obama administration members. These officials called the president’s actions an effort to “stifle free speech.”

Brennan added on Meet the Press that several attorneys have suggested he request an injunction to stop the president from revoking anybody else’s security clearances going forward.

Rudy Giuliania former prosecutor and one of Trump’s lawyers, said on Fox News on Sunday that he believed he was prepared to face a potential lawsuit from Brennan.

“I would volunteer to do that case for the president. I would love to have Brennan under oath,” Giuliani said. “We will find out about Brennan, and we will find out what a terrible job he did.”

According to the Washington Post, almost 4.1 million Americans possess federal security clearances “up to the ‘top secret’ level.” National security adviser John Bolton reportedly suggested over the weekend that a massive review of security clearances of both government and private officials be made soon.

Retired Navy Admiral Mike Mullen — a former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — said Trump’s repeated threats of revoking the security clearances of anybody who condemns him shows that the president is “creating a list of political enemies.” Mullen also said this behavior was similar to the communist hunt Sen. Joseph McCarthy spearheaded in the 1950s.

On Twitter, Trump called Brennan a “political hack” and “the worst CIA Director in our country’s history.”
