Jimmy Fallon Denies Donald Trump’s Claims That He Called & Thanked Him

Monday night, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon gave “a shout-out to our show’s No. 1 fan: the president of the United States!” after President Donald Trump tweeted his criticism of the late night host.

“As you may have heard last night, the president of the United States went after me on Twitter. So, Melania, if you’re watching, I don’t think your anti-bullying campaign is working,” cracked Fallon in response to the president’s tweet.

Trump was commenting on Fallon’s recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which he expressed his regret over his interview with then-candidate Trump on the Sept. 15, 2016, episode of The Tonight Show. Fallon was accused of normalizing Trump with his overly-friendly demeanor towards the controversial candidate.

“I made a mistake… And, looking back, I would do it differently,” said Fallon.

Rather than tweeting back, Fallon claimed he “had more important things to do.” But this didn’t stop the host from picking up the sheer irony of the situation.

“Then I thought, ‘Wait, shouldn’t he have more important things to do?” joked Fallon. “He’s the president! What are you doing? Why are you tweeting at me?”

Fallon also didn’t hesitate to pick apart the president’s tweet. The host openly refuted Trump’s claims that Fallon had previously called and thanked the candidate for appearing on the show as well as boosting the program’s ratings.

“First of all, I’ve never called this human in my life. I don’t have his number, I don’t want his number,” Fallon said. “And monster ratings? … I’ve never said ‘monster ratings.’ I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

On the point of providing “monster ratings,” the host actually thanked the president “for nothing,” noting how the show’s ratings have actually been on the decline for the past two years since Trump’s appearance.

Fallon has since commemorated the honor of being virtually bullied the president of the United States by making a donation in Trump’s name to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, also known as RAICES.
