Donald Trump Questions Sen. Mark Warner’s Sobriety Over Mueller Joke

President Donald Trump publicly questioned whether Senate Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat Mark Warner was “in a near drunken state” when he made a joke about the Russia investigation over the weekend.

Trump is referencing a report from Politico’s Playbook, which said Warner was overheard joking to more than 100 dinner attendees at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee’s annual Majority Trust retreat, saying “If you get me one more glass of wine, I’ll tell you stuff only Bob Mueller and I know.”

Warner added: “If you think you’ve seen wild stuff so far, buckle up. It’s going to be a wild couple of months.”

Rachel Cohen, a spokeswoman for Warner, responded to the president’s tweet, saying Warner was obviously joking.

Politico reports that on Monday, Warner said, “It was a bad joke. You know how seriously I take this investigation.”

Trump continues to call the investigation a “witch hunt.” However, four former Trump associates have pleaded guilty or have been indicted in special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe thus far.
