Jeffrey Epstein Was Not Closely Monitored Before Suicide In Jail

Jeffrey Epstein, the New York financier charged with sexually abusing and trafficking girls, was not closely monitored before he committed suicide in his Manhattan jail cell on Saturday, officials said Sunday.

Epstein, who died at age 66, had been removed from suicide watch just days prior to his death, even after he had been found semi-conscious and with injuries on July 23 that suggested he may have attempted to commit suicide in his cell. Epstein had reportedly been subjected psychiatric evaluations every day.

WATCH BETO TAKEDOWN TRUMP:

On Friday morning, thousands of records pertaining to a civil suit were disclosed. The documents contained lewd descriptions of the late financier’s sexual abuses of underage girls.

Epstein should have been closely watched twice every hour by the pair of guards in charge of his protective housing unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan, although this protocol was not followed. The late financier was also supposed to have a cell-mate. Epstein was found dead from apparent hanging early Saturday morning.

The FBI and Justice Department are likely to investigate the details surrounding Epstein’s death and his treatment at the Manhattan prison — or alleged lack thereof — during the days leading up to his death.

Over the weekend, several conspiracy theories regarding Epstein’s death began circulating around the Internet. President Donald Trump even pushed one that suggested Epstein may have been murdered and that linked the late financier to his former friend Bill Clinton.

The medical examiner in charge of Epstein’s case said she is confident hanging was the cause of his death, although she is seeking more information from local authorities.
