Properties in Baltimore owned by Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump‘s son-in-law and senior adviser, were cited this week for rodents and other code violations.
The news comes after Trump insulted the city of Baltimore in a series of tweets over the weekend. The president called it a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and blasted Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland), the African-American congressman whose district is mainly comprised of Baltimore and who serves as the Democratic House Oversight Committee chairman.
Trump’s tweets drew severe backlash and strong responses from local newspapers like The Baltimore Sun and from major cable news outlets.
Baltimore residents living in buildings owned by Kushner Companies have complained about lack of proper plumbing, as well as “maggots, mice and mold” in their homes.

SLIDESHOW: TOP DEMOCRATS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT IN 2020
“It’s particularly ironic that the president is making these comments when we know here in Baltimore County in 2017 that his son-in-law directly contributed to some of the neglect that the president is purportedly so concerned about today,” Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski told CNN.
In 2017, Baltimore County found more than 200 code violations at properties owned by Kushner Companies. In a statement this week, Kushner Companies said they were proud to own properties in Baltimore and said the apartments provided a “high-quality residential experience for their tenants.”
Now, a class-action lawsuit is reportedly moving forward on behalf of 30,000 tenants. Some tenants even complained about receiving “illegal and predatory notices seeking payment of additional, often illegal, fees under threat of eviction,” according to documents obtained by CNN.
