Rep. Ilhan Omar Challenges Trump’s Call For Her Resignation, Accuses Him Of Discriminating His “Whole Life”

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump spoke out against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.). He claimed she should resign from her position in Congress or at least resign from serving on congressional committees, citing her controversial comments regarding Israel.

“Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress,” Trump expressed. “And Congressman Omar is terrible, what she said, and I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.”

Omar apologized for her comments on Monday, an apology Trump was unimpressed with. Speaking with reporters, the Commander in Chief claimed her anti-Semitic comments spoke of her character and he reiterated his call for her resignation.

“What [she] said is so deep seated in her heart that her lame apology — and that’s what it was, it was lame and she didn’t mean a word of it — was just not appropriate,” Trump said. “I think she should resign from Congress, frankly. But at a minimum she shouldn’t be on committees, certainly that committee.”

However, Omar shot back at Trump on Wednesday morning, accusing him of discriminating against several minority groups over his entire lifetime. She also acknowledged a fundamental difference between them, namely that she has the capacity to learn from others. “I learned from people impacted by my words,” she stated in her tweet. “When will you?”
