House GOP Preparing Contempt Of Congress For Hunter Biden

House Republicans are gearing up to vote on a contempt of Congress vote for Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden‘s son, after he refused to comply with a subpoena and testify privately before a committee investigating his finances.

Hunter said he would be willing to testify in public under oath because he feared Republicans would misrepresent his testimony.

This summer, Hunter’s former business partner, Devon Archer, told the House Oversight Committee that Hunter was selling the “illusion” of access to President Biden to his supposed criminal associates.

According to a source familiar with the meeting, Archer provided no evidence connecting Biden to any of his son’s alleged foreign business dealings. Archer said that Hunter was selling the “illusion” of access to his father, but later explained that he was actually selling the illusion of knowledge about Washington, D.C.

The contents of the interview are the latest developments in the Republican-led investigations into Hunter. Both Republicans and Democrats have found ways to use portions of Archer’s testimony to their advantage.

Archer claimed that Hunter would put his father on speakerphone with business associates, but that they never discussed business transactions. Democrats are celebrating Archer’s testimony that Biden had nothing to do with Hunter’s misconduct, and Republicans have said that it only reaffirmed that the president knew what his son was up to.

“House Republicans keep promising bombshell evidence to support their ridiculous attacks against the President, but time after time, they keep failing to produce any,” said White House spokesperson Ian Sams in a statement.

The Justice Department recently submitted a request for Archer to begin serving his one-year sentence in prison for a conviction in an unrelated fraud case. Republicans have questioned whether the Biden administration was attempting to keep Archer from testifying, though the government explicitly asked that Archer’s sentence only begin after his interviews were complete.
