GOP Sen. J.D. Vance Says He’ll Only Accept Results Of 2024 Election If They’re ‘Free & Fair’

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), a GOP vice president contender, showed his loyalty to former president Donald Trump by supporting him at the Manhattan courthouse for his criminal trial proceedings this week.

The visit came a day after Vance told CNN anchor Dana Bash that he would only accept the 2024 election results if they were “free and fair.”

“I totally plan to accept the results of 2024,” he said. “If it’s a free and fair election, Dana, I think every Republican will enthusiastically accept the results. And again, I think those results will show that Donald Trump has been elected president.”

Vance further clarified that people should still have the freedom to “pursue” any “problems” with elections, saying, “If you think there were problems, you have to be willing to pursue those problems and try to prosecute the case.”

Vance’s comments echo similar remarks made by other potential Trump running mates, mirroring his false claims about voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election and causing questions to emerge about whether Trump and his supporters will accept the November election results this time around.

Last Sunday, Scott dodged questions about whether he would accept the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, saying, “At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump.”

Similarly, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-New York) voted against certifying the 2020 election results in Pennsylvania and, when asked during an interview in January, has yet to commit to certifying the 2024 election results.

President Joe Biden has continuously called out Trump’s election denialism, criticizing Trump’s loyal supporters, who he describes as “auditioning for vice president.”

During a Friday campaign reception in California, Biden added, “You can’t only love your country when you win.”

Last Thursday, Trump announced that he will likely announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention in July.
