Just days after former First Lady Barbara Bush passed away at 92 years old, her husband, 93-year-old former President George H.W. Bush, was hospitalized in Houston, Texas, where he is in intensive care.

Bush was taken to Houston Methodist Hospital on Monday morning due to an infection.

“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood,” a statement released by his office read. “He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering.”

His office will issue updates as they come.

A source close to Bush told CNN that Bush’s initial infection led to the dangerous sepsis infection, and that his blood pressure had dropped. He is now in stable condition, according to spokesperson Jim McGrath.

Bush suffers from Parkinson’s disease, which he announced several years ago. He is now in a wheelchair because of the illness.

Bush was the 41st President of the United States and the father of George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. President.
