Donald Trump Won’t Say If He’ll Fire Robert Mueller & Rod Rosenstein: ‘They Are Still Here’

President Donald Trump faced yet another question on Wednesday about whether or not he will fire special counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosensteinand he deflected the question by simply saying: “They are still here.”

Trump Comments On Potential Firing Of Mueller And Rosenstein

Trump insinuated to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Wednesday that he has grown tired of the rumors that he will fire Mueller and/or Rosenstein, two of the lead figures involved in investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and collusion between Trump campaign officials and the Russian government.

“As far as the two gentlemen you told me about, they have been saying I am going to get rid of them for the last three months,” Trump stated during a joint press conference with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. “Four months, five months, and they are still here. So we want to get the investigation over with, done with. Put it behind us.”

Trump did not ruled out firing Mueller. Reports recently surfaced that Trump had told his advisers as far back as December that he wanted to fire Mueller. The president had at one point said he was prepared to sit down with Mueller for an interview in the hopes that this would end the probe, though his advisers have cautioned him against doing this, and he has said it is very unlikely for him to agree to testify before the special counsel after the FBI raided his personal lawyer Michael Cohen’s office. Recently, Trump has repeatedly denounced the investigation as a “witch hunt” both in televised statements and on Twitter. The president has accused Mueller of being biased toward Democrats and of receiving strong support from the party, including from Hillary Clinton and other prominent party members. Trump said the probe is being conducted as a way to alleviate the blow Democrats felt when Clinton lost the 2016 election.

Trump also accused the Democrats of being “obstructionists,” though he himself is being investigated for obstruction of justice. However, it was recently reported that Mueller would handle the probe into obstruction of justice at a later time, after the collusion issue has been dealt with.

“There is no collusion,” Trump stated on Wednesday. “There is no collusion with Russia other than by the Democrats. Or, as I call them, the obstructionists. Because they truly are obstructionist.“

Trump added that he is being transparent in cooperating with Mueller’s probe, including giving the special counsel and his team dozens of documents. Mueller subpoenaed the Trump Organization for business records in March.
