The attorney for porn actress Stormy Daniels says that Donald Trump definitely knew about the hush money given to his client.
Daniels and Trump allegedly had an affair at a Lake Tahoe golf tournament in 2006, but the true events of the story are still uncertain. On Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January, Daniels would not outwardly admit to the sexual relationship she had with the president, but did hint that it happened. “Never have I ever had sex with a married man at a golf tournament,” Kimmel asked her, and the actress nodded her head yes.

In later weeks, it came out that Trump’s longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 out of his own pocket to keep her quiet about the affair during the 2016 presidential election.

Now, Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti claims that Trump must have known about the transaction, and even suggested that the money had come from the president himself. “There’s no question the president knew about it at the time,” the attorney told NBC’s Today show. “The idea that an attorney would go off on his own, without his client’s knowledge and engage in this type of negotiation and enter into this type of agreement, quite honestly I think is ludicrous.”
Avenatti even said his client was prepared to return the money. While Daniels signed a non-disclosure agreement, she also claims she was forced to do so. Avenatti alleges that Trump’s lawyer “demanded she sign that statement. And as alleged in the complaint, we believe that it was done through force and intimidation.”
Daniels filed a lawsuit against the president on Tuesday, saying Trump never even signed the non-disclosure agreement. The court documents, obtained by The New York Times, allege that Trump “purposely did not sign the agreement so he could later, if need be, publicly disavow any knowledge of the Hugh Agreement and Ms. Clifford.”(Daniels was born Stephanie Clifford.)
“We fully intend on bringing as much sunlight to this matter as possible,” Avenatti said in the suit.
