Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Says Bill Clinton Should Have Resigned After Monica Lewinsky Affair
Donald Trump has escalated another Twitter war, this time with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).
The president seems to have deliberately taken an unprecedented shot at Gillibrand, who is a major Trump opponent. “Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” Trump tweeted.
Trump’s tweet comes in retaliation of members of the Democratic party bringing further attention to the fact that over a dozen different women have accused the president of sexual misconduct. In a time when multitudes of women are speaking out against their male sexual abusers, attention has been brought to the political sphere. Alabama senatorial candidate Roy Moore has been accused by various women of sexual assault when they were young teens, and Trump still endorsed him for the Senate. Trump continues to deny any allegations brought against him.

“Despite thousands of hours wasted and many millions of dollars spent, the Democrats have been unable to show any collusion with Russia – so now they are moving on to the false accusations and fabricated stories of women who I don’t know and/or have never met. FAKE NEWS!” he tweeted on Tuesday.
Many critics see the president’s words as a sexist attack on the Senator, mainly in reference to saying she would “do anything” for campaign donations. “What do u mean @SenGillibrand would ‘do anything’ for campaign contributions?” asked former Fox news host Gretchen Carlson. Carlson recently reached a settlement with Fox over alleged sexual harassment allegations against the network. “Sexual harassment is apolitical. Women will not be silenced no matter what party they are in. Period,” she added in a separate tweet.
Gillibrand herself responded to Trump’s tweet, saying, “You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office.”
Gillibrand was one of many Democratic party leaders to urge Trump to resign from office amid his sexual assault allegations. She was also one of the strongest voices pushing Sen. Al Franken to resign. “President Trump should resign,” she said in an interview with CNN. “These allegations are credible; they are numerous. I’ve heard these women’s testimony, and many of them are heartbreaking.”
