Donald Trump Demands “Full And Complete” Prison Sentence For Michael Cohen, Claims Mueller Seeks ‘Lies’ From Witnesses

President Donald Trump lashed out at Michael Cohen on Twitter Monday morning, demanding that his former longtime personal lawyer receive a longer prison sentence for confessing his crimes to prosecutors last week.

“Michael Cohen asks judge for no Prison Time,” Trump tweeted. “You mean he can do all of the TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things having to do with fraud, big loans, Taxis, etc. and not serve a long prison term? He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scot Free. He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence.”

On Thursday, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about his involvement in a prospective Trump Tower deal in Moscow in 2016. It was then revealed over the weekend that Cohen tried to directly contact the Kremlin about the project. This follows Cohen taking an earlier plea deal in August related to bank and tax fraud charges. Trump’s former lawyer also pled guilty to multiple campaign finance violations, including his alleged hush money payments to several women with whom the former Apprentice star had extramarital affairs. Trump called Cohen “a weak person” on Twitter after his most recent plea deal last week.

Cohen is set to be sentenced Dec. 12 in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, New York. On Friday, his attorneys requested in a court filing that Cohen not serve prison time.

The news outlet also reported that Cohen could “theoretically get up to 70 years in prison if sentenced to consecutive terms for all his crimes,” according to CNBC. However, if the lawyer ends up being convicted of only certain charges, he could ultimately spend just a few years behind bars.

Trump also went after Robert Mueller in a separate tweet, accusing the special counsel of seeking “lies” from witnesses as part of the Russia inquiry. The president has repeatedly called the investigation a “witch hunt.”

It was recently revealed that Trump has been labeled “Individual 1” in Mueller’s probe, a term often used in criminal investigations.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also reportedly called the inquiry a “Russian Witch Hunt Hoax” in an official statement, in which she added she hoped it would soon be over.
