President Donald Trump has long had a troubled relationship with the media, something that was again demonstrated in his Wednesday press conference. When not lamenting the Democrats’ plans to investigate his taxes or the Republicans who failed to embrace him during the midterm, Trump became progressively more hostile with the press, particularly a CNN reporter.
The Commander in Chief directly clashed with CNN’s Jim Acosta, speaking over the reporter, refusing to answer his questions and ultimately asked a White House aide to snatch his microphone. Acosta managed to begin asking a question, “On the Russia investigation, are you concerned that you may…?” Trump, however, responded by saying, “I’m not concerned about anything with the Russia investigation because it’s a hoax.”

Angry, the president continued while shaking his fist, adding, “I tell you what: CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person.” Trump also claimed the way Acosta treats his press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is “horrible,” adding, “You shouldn’t treat people that way.”

NBC News’ Peter Alexander came to the defense of his CNN colleague, making him the target of Trump’s vitriolic conduct. “Well, I’m not a big fan of yours either,” Trump said to Alexander. “You aren’t the best.” April Ryan, a American Urban Radio Networks correspondent, was outright ignored by Trump, and when PBS correspondent Yamiche Alcindor asked the president if he believes his rhetoric emboldens white nationalists, Trump refuted her “racist question.” Trump later concluded, “It’s such a hostile media. It’s so sad.”
