Jeff Sessions Resigns As Attorney General At Donald Trump’s Request

President Donald Trump and his acting Attorney General Jeff Sessions have endured a contentious relationship, with Trump publicly airing his disapproval of his subordinate. However, their relationship has finally come to an end, as Sessions formally resigned from his post on Wednesday.

Trump’s frequently expressed interest in firing Sessions, even going as far to add that he did not “have an attorney general,” so it was expected that Sessions’ time in the White House was limited. According to Trump, Sessions’ immediate successor will be Matthew Whitaker, who previously served as the Chief of Staff to Sessions. Trump also thanked his former employee for his service, and added that a “permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date.”
