Dick Cheney Says He Still Supports CIA “Enhanced Interrogation” Program Despite The “Torture” Label

Dick Cheney, the former vice president during the George W. Bush administration, reveled that he still believes CIA “enhanced interrogation” program that many have called “torture,” used in the wake of 9/11 works.

While discussing Gina Haspels Senate confirmation debate as director of the CIA, Cheney told Fox Business that he still “wholeheartedly” supports the program that he had helped to launch.

“If it were my call I would not discontinue those programs,” he said adding that he doesn’t consider the methods, which includes waterboarding, as torture. “I’d have them active and ready to go, and I’d go back and study them and learn.”

Haspel said as head of the CIA that she would not restart the torture interrogation program, though she refused to comment on the morality of the past methods employed.

Most Democrats and a few Republican senators, most notably Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) voted against her when she was confirmed last week. Many Democratic senators oppose Haspel due to her leading role at a CIA black site where she oversaw torture interrogations and assisted in the destroying of video recordings documenting those interrogations.
