Former Vice President Joe Biden has earned the most votes of any presidential candidate in United States history. The precious holder of the title, former President Barack Obama, earned 69,498,516 votes in 2008 – Biden surpassed this on Wednesday afternoon, with several states still counting votes.
News of Biden’s success coincides with Tuesday’s news that they expect the 2020 election to have the highest voter turnout since 1908. An estimate of 67%, or 160 million votes, is expected.
While Biden has so far surpassed President Donald Trump in the popular vote, Trump also is expected to surpass Obama’s 2008 popular vote count.
