During an abortion-rights protest over the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and 15 other Democratic congressional leaders were arrested on Tuesday.
Among those arrested also included Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan). Several protesters joined the legislators in blocking a street near the Supreme Court.
Their march started at the Capitol, where the protestors wore bandanas and carried signs that read, “Won’t Back Down.” The activists made their way to the Supreme Court, where they blocked a road.
After several minutes, police were quickly on the scene when they ordered the marchers to “cease and desist.”

One woman shouted, “The people, united, will never be divided,” as she was escorted away from the road.
After the initial removal, the legislators were also arrested and taken from the area.
Before the arrest, the D.C. police tweeted, “Demonstrators are starting to block First Street, NE. It is against the law to block traffic, so officers are going to give our standard three warnings before they start making arrests.”
