One billion dollars is set to be awarded to 85 airports across the U.S. in an effort by President Joe Biden’s administration to upgrade America’s aging infrastructure.
The large sum comes from the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill meant to repair much of the crumbling infrastructure across the U.S. The bill is intended to improve roads, highways and bridges.
The funds will be given to the Federal Aviation Administration and the agency will direct the funds to the 85 airports across the U.S for repairs of terminals and runways.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg praised the plan as a relief for air travelers nationwide. He explained that money will create new jobs and facilitate more travel throughout the U.S.

“Americans deserve modern airports that meet the needs of their families and growing passenger demand,” Buttigieg said. “Today’s grants will improve airport terminals while also creating good jobs in communities across the country.”
The FAA noted that the new grants would be used for increased the capacity for flights and terminals. In a recent surge, airplane ticket prices have risen around 25%.
“America is a country that brought the modern aviation age to the world,” Buttigieg continued. “And yet around the world, in most rankings of airport quality, not one of our airports ranks among the top 25. That’s something that we have to change.”
