Federal political committees associated with President Donald Trump‘s campaign have spent roughly $16.8 million at his properties since the 2016 election cycle, new federal elections spending documents reveal.

According to an OpenSecrets analysis of Federal Election Commission records released this week, Republican campaigns and political action committees (PACs) have spent nearly $1.8 million at Trump-owned businesses thus far in the 2020 election cycle, and a majority of these funds ($1.3 million) have come from the Trump campaign. Other GOP PACs that have spent large amounts at Trump properties include the Republican National Committee (more than $122,000), the Great America Committee (more than $103,000) and America First Action (more than $80,000). The Center for Responsive Politics also found that 48 GOP members of Congress have spent campaign money at Trump properties.

OpenSecrets’ analysis of FEC filings also concluded that political committees have spent more than $20 million at Trump-owned properties since the 2008 election cycle. Around 99 percent of these funds have come since the 2016 cycle began.

Trump’s properties, like the Trump International Hotel in Washington and his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, often receive large donations whenever the president uses them to host fundraisers or other similar events. The contributions Trump’s businesses receive are typically used to cover rent and catering costs.
